Recipes for cats

Here Olli presents you some cat recipes. His girlfriend Bea concocted them for his tomcat. They've been successfully tested already. Successfully in the way that the sweetie seemed to be the happiest cat in the world after enjoying the special treat.

General information

Now and then my cat gets something cooked to eat. I can't tell if the following recipes would really be a suitable nutrition in the long run. Only that much: My tomcat is incredibly greedy for these dishes.

The ingredients for the recipes can be handled variably. Here, too, it is fun to be creative. However, for cats it is important to eat enough animal fats. Unlike human beings cats can not only take them well but even need them. 75 - 80 % of their meals should consist of animal products (fish, meat). The rest may be a mixture of vegetables or cereal products. Of these my cat likes best: Full grain rice, bits of potato, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, rice flakes, oat flakes. He declines politely to eat peas or strong tasting herbs. The only seasoning he tolerates is a small sprinkling of salt added to the water. - The matter with the spices actually goes without saying, but Bea and I had done the mistake to give the cat some of our spiced rice: He found it rather disgusting.

There are really good pages about cat nutrition on the internet. You're very likely to find some easily if you want to know more.

Fish fillet with potato

  Cut
1 small potato into very small cubes, and
ca. 1/2 cm of carrot into very small slices or cubes. Cook potato and carrot together in
water with a pinch of salt for 3 - 5 minutes.
Then add
ca. 100 g fish fillet and let cook for about another 5 minutes. After cooking pour off the water and mash everything with a fork.
Let cool down approximately to the temperature of a freshly killed prey. Serve while still warm. That's when it tastes best.

TIP: If you want, you might also stir 1 tsp. cream or coconut milk into the mixture. That's very delicious.
Another variation would be, to sprinkle 1 small-chopped leaf of lamb's lettuce over it. My cat is so keen on lamb's lettuce, that I may only store it in a safe place in order to prevent my cat from stealing it.

Hake (or other fish) with rice flakes

  Put
ca. 1 tbsp. rice flakes in a bit of
water with a pinch of salt and let simmer for about 3 minutes. (Alternatively you could just use some cooked rice from the day before. In that case add the rice only at the end and just heat it without cooking.)
Then add
1 little floret broccoli and
1 little floret cauliflower. You may as well take only broccoli or only cauliflower. My cat likes it either way.
Add
ca. 100 g hake and let simmer for about another 5 minutes. I usually turn the fish once. After cooking pour off the water and mix everything well.
Let cool down to a pleasant temperature. Serve while still warm.

TIP: If you wish, stir 1 tsp. of olive oil into the food.
It'll be particularly pretty and tasty, if it's garnished with some few scraps of cat grass.

TIP: As a simple dish you could vary the above-mentioned recipes so that e.g. you just cook some (minced) meat / fish together with a few grain flakes. Then you stir everything well, strew it with bits of cat grass, and ready is the big feast.
